The Lee Family's History

Established in 1800 by the Lee Family, The Lee Cemetery serves as the final resting place of the Lee Family and the descendants of Robert Jehu “Bob” Lee. The Lee Family consisted of farmers, ranchers, a preacher and traditional roles of the women who rest here. A Confederate captain during the American Civil War, Bob Lee became a central figure in the historic Lee and Peacock feud — a conflict that resulted in more casualties than the famous Hatfield and McCoy feud and helped shape the history and development of the surrounding towns and counties.
The Lee Family once owned nearly 200 acres surrounding the cemetery, and local legend says that Bob Lee still watches over his family and the land to this day. For generations, the Lee Family cared not only for their cemetery and property, but also for their surrounding community by helping neighbors and those in need.
Today, The Lee Cemetery remains dedicated to preserving the memory, history, and legacy of the Lee Family and all those laid to rest here. We invite visitors to explore the “Visit” tab to learn more about the cemetery and the rich history of the Lee Family.
